Representative Available Contract Analyses
Laboratory analysis:
Phytolith Analysis including:
1. Quantitative phytolith recovery (including soil texture analysis)
2. Slide preparation, scanning, and morphologic type counting
3. Biogenic silica analysis
4. Detailed technical report of findings (illustrations included as appropriate)
A. all of the steps above, or any of the steps that you would like me to perform. For instance,
if you do not have your own chemical lab, but you wish to scan your specimen slides—I can
perform the sample preparation for you, and slide preparation if desired, and return them to you for
further processing.
Sponge Spicule Analysis:
Analysis of spicule data recovered with phytoliths (above)
Diatom Analysis:
I can submit sample isolates or slides with significant diatom content to a well-known diatom analyst
(BW) for species identification and paleoenvironmental interpretation.
Reference control specimen preparation (dry or wet prep).
Soil Analysis:
A variety of soil analyses are available including soil pH, texture, more detailed particle size
determination, etc.
New methods: I frequently develop new methodologies for a variety of analytes and resolve various
problems. I am a career analytical chemist with a Ph.D. in soil science, and a fully equipped
analytical laboratory).
Training services are available for various laboratory techniques.
Material culture studies (such as clay trade pipes and trade beads)
Photography/Image support:
Microphotography: if you provide isolates or mounted slides, I can take photographs for you, and
return the slides along with the images. Example images are shown elsewhere on this site.
If you do not illustrate your reports due to lack of micro-photographic capabilities, I can readily
fill that niche for you—illustrations really add a lot to a report or paper.
Publication-Ready Figures/Plates: I also create figures and plates of multiple scaled specimens
suitable for publication (as illustrated on the publications page).
Specimen Photography: Lithics, thin sections, use wear documentation (stone or bone), sands,
various debris, etc. Stereo, light, phase contrast, and polarized light microscopy are all available
in house—images taken with Olympus DP camera systems.
